Wedding Cakes Galore!

3 May

Evening everyone

How are you all? Sorry for the radio silence – it’s been crazy busy here at Eat Sleep Cake towers.

So the Royal Wedding has been and gone and it was totally gorgeous (LOVED that dress), but obviously my professional interest was focussed on what cakes they would have.

As you are probably aware there were not one, but two, cakes. One for her and one for him and here they are in all their glory!

The top four tiers of the Bride’s Cake (the white one) are totally pretty and romantic though in my opinion the bottom section is a bit OTT. However saying that the level of work and detail involved is totally amazing, and the cake maker made two duplicate cakes ‘just in case’ something happened to one of them and you have to give her credit for that! I doubt there was much sleep in that kitchen over the last few weeks.

The groom’s cake (the chocolate one) was a no-bake biscuit cake made to a secret royal family recipe. I admire anyone who can work to this level in chocolate. It is totally amazing what you can achieve. The man who did the decorations is really well known in the sugarcraft world and demonstrates all over the world and you can see why!!

So not quite the same level of detail but I had three wedding cakes this weekend. One classic, one cupcakes and one of mini cakes. And here’s the pics to prove it!

Simon and Michelle had a top-tier of yummy, moist Carrot Cake, with two sponge cakes as the bottom two tiers. The Gerberas were made from sugarpaste and were the motif for the whole wedding, which was held at the fabulous Dartington Hall, nr Totnes (www.dartington.org/weddings).

Jen and Mike opted for these totally cute cupcakes in Lemon, Vanilla and Chocolate Fudge flavours. The wedding was uber-cool, with cute details (just like the couple) and was held at the deeply delicious Bickleigh Castle, nr Tiverton (www.bickleighcastle.com).

Finally on the Sunday there was Katja and Mark’s ivory and black mini cakes, with their gorgeously elegant monogram that they had designed specifically for them. The cakes were Lemon and Vanilla and fitted in perfectly with their elegant wedding held at Combe House Hotel, nr Honiton (www.combehousedevon.com)

So now the crazy week is over it’s time to look forward. I have a photoshoot this week for the next issue of Wed Magazine (www.wedmagazine.co.uk) so I am super excited about seeing my cakes in print. And I am also going to find some time this month to get my website updated with new pictures and pages, so keep your eyes peeled….

Speak soon my lovelies

Powderham Castle

27 Mar

Morning Peeps

Well here I am sat up watching the opening race of the F1, whilst baking some more taster cakes for the second day of the Powderham Wedding Fayre (www.powderhamweddingshow.co.uk).

Laura Hingston Flowers and I decided to share a stand again as it makes it so much more fun when you can have a giggle with your mates as well as meeting loads of lovely couples.

We were so busy yesterday I am almost out of my flyers and  we did run out of both Chocolate Fudge and Traditional Fruit cake tasters. Subsequently my nostrils are being tempted as I type with the smell of Carrot and Orange Cake, and some more Chocolate Fudge. It’s making me VERY hungry.

Anyway here are a couple of pics of our stand that the lovely Laura took on her phone. I will post some more photos on Facebook later for you all to feast your eyes on

Have a good day everyone

Princess Castle Cake

3 Jan

This was a tricky cake as was produced with only a couple of days notice and was made from Carrot Cake. It’s a bit too soft a cake to acheive a really crisp result when making shaped cakes but I quite like the soft and wobbly edges to the cake. It seems to make it more cartoon-esque; like a friendly, squishy princess castle (that tastes completely yummy too!)
