Weddings Galore – Part 1

14 Jul

Hi All

It’s been a busy few weeks here at Eat Sleep Cake towers. We are into peak wedding season and the cakes have been flying out the door!

It’s always a total pleasure doing someone’s wedding cake and helping, in a small way, contribute to what is a really special day. Clients have such different ideas about what they want, whether it’s traditional flavours such as fruit and vanilla sponge, or something more funky like caramel or chilli and chocolate!

Here are some recent piccies of the wedding cakes in June (mostly) for your viewing pleasure!

These monochrome little mini cakes were for Katja and Mark’s elegant wedding at Combe House, Gittisham. They were a mix of Lemon and Vanilla mini cakes and the ‘K&M’ logo was designed specifically for them by a friend. These photos were taken by the uber-talented Jessica Farmer from Perspectives Photography. Totally stunning and a much better job than I could ever have done (and did – see Facebook!)

Next up we have the totally different and funky cake for Susan and Jay, which was held down at the Barcelo Imperial in Torquay.

Susan really loves gerberas and the overall theme was hot pink and black. The entire cake was Rich Chocolate Fudge cake (made with Green & Black’s dark chocolate) and was a real hit with the bride, groom and guests (I had a little inside scoop as one of my friends, Louise, is the bride’s cousin so provided handy on the day feedback). Susan and Jay were my first ‘official’ couple to book when I set up the business last year, so it was really lovely to see my first booking finally realised.

Lastly for this post was Selina and Jamie’s Stargazer Lilly and Roses Cake.

Selina and Jamie were married at the church in Ottery St Mary and the reception was held at the Deer Park Hotel, just outside Honiton. I have been to the Deer Park before and remember it as a little shabby. However, much to my delight it has been completely re-vamped and now is the picture of elegance, whilst still being comfortable. The day was an absolute scorcher and the reception was in the marquee. It is always worth bearing in mind that if you are having a reception in a marquee then they can get quite warm so talk to us about what cakes are suitable i.e. not a 5-tier choclate extravaganza!

I hope you have enjoyed this little snapshot of last month. Will post a Part 2 in a few days.

I must now go and get elbow deep in flour and get scone baking for my new partnership with the Dandelion Cafe at Haytor. It’s part of the Moorlands Hotel and has been recently opened. They try to use locally sourced and ethically produced food wherever possible and so linking up with me to provide cakes totally makes sense as I work along the same lines. I have lived in Devon for most of my life and have been to Haytor countless times and have never thought to go in there for a cuppa after hiking about, but if you are up that way I highly recommend it. Their tea is perfect and the staff are lovely (and its always an excuse to eat cake!)

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend

First Wedding and Cakes Galore!

6 Apr

Evening All

What a crazy couple of weeks it has been, just so so busy with lots of cake making.

It was the first wedding cake of 2011 for me last weekend. Sophie and Anthony picked a three-tier version of the blossom Eat Cake design (www.eatsleepcake.co.uk/eat-cake) in soft gold and ivory to match their colour scheme. To top the cake they used Sophie’s Mum’s topper, which she had kept since her wedding in 1979! It was a totally sweet touch.

They also had some cute cupcakes for the kids AND two Mother’s day cakes for the Gran’s for the following day, which was a lovely idea.

Talking of Mother’s Day my lovely friend Laura asked me for a cake for not one, but FIVE mother’s who were all celebrating Mothering Sunday together.

We celebrated these gorgeous women by icing all thier names round a pretty champagne and yellow cake covered with icing details and champagne and yellow icing roses.

My lovely graphic designer friend Deb (who designed my beee-utiful logo) is due to give birth to her first child in the next week or so. Fingers crossed I will get to make her a cake for her first Mother’s Day next year. Good luck to her and Dave for the next couple of weeks. I am so looking forward to cuddles.

I am at the Buckland-Tout-Saints Wedding Fayre (www.tout-saints.co.uk) this Sunday alongside my lovely friend Sarah Lauren (who took those totally gorgeous photos for the photoshoot we did back in January) and I am looking forward to a lovely catch up and planning session for our next photoshoot (as well as meeting lots of lovely brides obviously!)

Have a lovely week everyone

Inspirational Diamonds and Sweets

21 Mar

Evening Everyone

What a hectic week it has been (hence not many posts) but I did two cakes this last week that I thought deserved a mention.

The first was a Diamond Wedding Aniversary cake with real diamante detailing. I felt so honoured to be doing a cake for a couple that has managed to survive the ups and downs of marriage and still be going strong 60 years later.

Their son, Graham, who commissioned the cake is getting married next year to a totally gorgeous girly, Antoinette. I get to do the cake for their weding as well and am so looking forward to it!

The other cake was for a little girl at the other end of her life. Minnie was 9 last week and had a fab day out at Crealy. Her mum Jo is totally crazy (but in a good way) and braved taking ten kids for a day out. As if that wasnt crazy enough she also commissioned a cake and cake pops covered in sweets! Sugar overload – but it totally suited Minnie’s girly style.

As well as these I did two wedding fayres and now have to get prepared for the Powderham Wedding Fayre (www.powderhamweddingshow.co.uk) which is all next weekend.

Strangely I have been persuaded to do a small demo on each day on how to stack a three-tier wedding cake – so if you are thinking of doing your own cake (or are just curious) then come along at 12.30 and see how I do it!

See you soon
