Wedding Planning – Part 1

28 Dec

Evening All

I hope you have all had a fabulous christmas and the return to work today for some of you hasn’t been too traumatic.

As most of you may know Mr ESC proposed at the beginning of December and so we have now (mixed in with cake baking and Christmas preparations) managed to have a few conversations about what we want from our wedding.

I have thought long and hard about whether to blog about our preparations and have also checked with Mr ESC that he is happy for me to do so, but I think it is fairly obvious that I LOVE weddings and would just be bursting to tell everyone if I couldn’t (and also I cant think of a community of people I would rather pick the brains of when I get stuck!!!)

So Mr ESC and I have sat down and had the ‘what do we want from our wedding’ chat, and we both wrote down that we want it to be full of fun and Adam (Mr ESC) has also has said he doesn’t want us ‘running around like mad things being stressed out’ (has he looked at who he is marrying I ask myself???)

We have both totally fallen in love with the idea of lots of colour in our wedding and were inspired by the gorgeous flowers that the talented Laura Hingston did for a photoshoot with me and Sarah Lauren back in January last year.

So this is our jumping off point……

Next on the list are venues and THE DRESS (and yes, I know it’s early on but when I will be rather busy next year baking cakes for everyone else’s weddings (not that I am complaining) I figure I might need to make some decisions sooner rather than later!)

I look forward to sharing the journey with you all and hopefully finding lots of inspiration and ideas as I go along (and dont worry there will be lots of cakes still!!)

Enjoy New Year everyone and see you afterwards

Westpoint 2011

30 Oct

Morning Everyone

As promised here are some pictures of the recent Wedding Fayre we did at Westpoint, Exeter at the beginning of October (http://south-west.weddinglink.co.uk/home).

The lovely Sarah Lauren Photography took some pictures of the cakes and the stand with our smiling ugly mugs – so please just relax and enjoy.

Me, Laura and my Mum on the stand

I couldnt do the fayres without the help of lovely people like my Mum, Laura and Nicky all of whom gave up their weekend to help me, so a massive thank you to all of them and obviously also to Mr ESC for keeping me vaguely sane in the buildup to each event.

Have a lovely week everyone

Wedding Fayres

11 Oct

Hi my lovelies

So now we are at the end of wedding season it is that time of year that see us busy with all the Autumn wedding fayres.

So far the Eat Sleep Cake express has booked themselves in to five wedding fayres where we had / will have our scrummy fairtrade, organic and locally produced cakes to sample. And we have on show some of the new techniques and design ideas that have been buzzing round in our heads for months.

The first show we did was at the Thistle Hotel (the old Rougemont) in Exeter on 4th September. We did our first wedding fayre there last year and had a blast, and now we are their preferred cake supplier as well. It’s a great central venue with plush furnishings and the added bonus of being right opposite Central station (easy to make that get away for your honeymoon with no driving!) and opposite Northernhay Gardens, which can provide a great back-drop for photographs.

Next we did the Debenhams two-day wedding event on 17th & 18th September at Debenhams in Exeter city centre. Luckily I remembered to leave my purse at home for that one or I think I would have spent far too much money – me and Designers at Debenhams cooped up together for two days is never going to end well!

Then we had the big one – the South West Brides wedding fayre at Westpoint Arena on 7th & 8th October. We had a larger stand than last year and really set it up with lots of delicious details as well as our show cakes, cupcakes, cookies and other delicious delights. We saw so many lovely brides and now it is a case of working my way through all the enquiries so don’t worry I will get to you soon if you havent heard from me already!

Sarah Lauren Photography  took a photo of the Eat Sleep Cake crew on our stand on Sunday so when I manage to get hold of it I will get it posted up.

The last two fayres we are doing are both the weekend of 12th / 13th November. The first one is a two-day fayre out at Killerton, the National Trust property nr. Exeter, and the other is on Sunday 13th November at the lovely Buckland-Tout-Saints hotel down near Kinsgbridge.

I hope to see some people there. I am going to finish this now before it takes me another month to finish (started this post on August 19th!!!)

Take care

Wedding Galore – Part 2

6 Aug

Hi everybody

So now I have had a short break for a quick camping holiday to Cornwall, I am back and ready to get going on a very busy August and the preparations for the Autumn wedding fayres.

But to finish off the pre-holiday blog here are some more cake pics from recent weddings

This first cake was made for the totally adorable Louise & Mike, who held their wedding at the Langdon Court Hotel, near Plymouth. The theme of the wedding was Devon Hedgerows and they wanted a very prettty multi-coloured cake, which I think is summed up in this design. The whole cake was Lemon Sponge, which was suitable for their summer wedding, which was brilliantly photographed by Sarah Lauren Photography (though she didnt take the rather dark photo above – that was all me!)

On the same day as Mike and Louise’s wedding I also delievered to Buckland-Tout-Saints hotel a tower of cupcakes for Lavinia & Magnus.

There was a mix of yummy chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with buttercream icing and individual details on each cake.

The final cake was the pretty butterfly cake for Elaine and Andrew in shades of lilac and purple. The swoop of butterflies up the cake matched in with their stationery and decoration details.

I hope you have enjoyed the picture updates. More to come soon.

And now its on to catching up with all the calls and paperwork!

Weddings Galore – Part 1

14 Jul

Hi All

It’s been a busy few weeks here at Eat Sleep Cake towers. We are into peak wedding season and the cakes have been flying out the door!

It’s always a total pleasure doing someone’s wedding cake and helping, in a small way, contribute to what is a really special day. Clients have such different ideas about what they want, whether it’s traditional flavours such as fruit and vanilla sponge, or something more funky like caramel or chilli and chocolate!

Here are some recent piccies of the wedding cakes in June (mostly) for your viewing pleasure!

These monochrome little mini cakes were for Katja and Mark’s elegant wedding at Combe House, Gittisham. They were a mix of Lemon and Vanilla mini cakes and the ‘K&M’ logo was designed specifically for them by a friend. These photos were taken by the uber-talented Jessica Farmer from Perspectives Photography. Totally stunning and a much better job than I could ever have done (and did – see Facebook!)

Next up we have the totally different and funky cake for Susan and Jay, which was held down at the Barcelo Imperial in Torquay.

Susan really loves gerberas and the overall theme was hot pink and black. The entire cake was Rich Chocolate Fudge cake (made with Green & Black’s dark chocolate) and was a real hit with the bride, groom and guests (I had a little inside scoop as one of my friends, Louise, is the bride’s cousin so provided handy on the day feedback). Susan and Jay were my first ‘official’ couple to book when I set up the business last year, so it was really lovely to see my first booking finally realised.

Lastly for this post was Selina and Jamie’s Stargazer Lilly and Roses Cake.

Selina and Jamie were married at the church in Ottery St Mary and the reception was held at the Deer Park Hotel, just outside Honiton. I have been to the Deer Park before and remember it as a little shabby. However, much to my delight it has been completely re-vamped and now is the picture of elegance, whilst still being comfortable. The day was an absolute scorcher and the reception was in the marquee. It is always worth bearing in mind that if you are having a reception in a marquee then they can get quite warm so talk to us about what cakes are suitable i.e. not a 5-tier choclate extravaganza!

I hope you have enjoyed this little snapshot of last month. Will post a Part 2 in a few days.

I must now go and get elbow deep in flour and get scone baking for my new partnership with the Dandelion Cafe at Haytor. It’s part of the Moorlands Hotel and has been recently opened. They try to use locally sourced and ethically produced food wherever possible and so linking up with me to provide cakes totally makes sense as I work along the same lines. I have lived in Devon for most of my life and have been to Haytor countless times and have never thought to go in there for a cuppa after hiking about, but if you are up that way I highly recommend it. Their tea is perfect and the staff are lovely (and its always an excuse to eat cake!)

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend

Hilarious Blog Post

18 May

Morning everyone.

I just had to share this fantastic blog post from the gorgeous Sarah at Boho Bride (www.bohobride.co.uk) Anyone else feeling like this?

Our Wedding – Four Months Today!

May 17, 2011

Last night it dawned on me that in four months time we’ll be saying our vows, so I thought I’d take the opportunity to blog about how I’m feeling about the impending celebrations…

I have found it much harder work than I could have ever imagined. I don’t know if that’s a normal or abnormal feeling, but I can spend hours excitedly creating inspiration boards, styling photo shoots and giving advice to other planning Brides, but for myself? Nada. This is how bad it’s got…

♥ I’ve yet to create a mood board for our wedding – though I have a file on my laptop that’s brimming with saved images that I love.  My fear is that I adore so many things, the wedding will look like it’s having an identity crisis – or that I’ve vomited an eclectic mix of rustic, whimsical, bohemia with elements of folk all over the place. The general ‘theme’ {not a fan of that word} is ‘stuff we love’.

♥ I’ve only just started booking things for the wedding and still haven’t made a single piece of decor – though I do have a box of bits I’ve already stashed, which I’ll dig into…and I’ll borrow stuff from my folks too {thanks Mum} to save pennies! Again, worried ‘old curiosity shop’  and ‘musty’ might be used to describe my styling.

♥ Although I’ve sent masses of ‘inspirational’ images to my B’maids only two of five have dresses.

♥ My Groom hasn’t even considered his attire yet.

♥ My Dad is so begrudged to spend money – he wants to wear a suit he’s owned for years, circa 1970…it doesn’t look vintage…it looks tragic.

♥ Every time we sit down to read through ceremony/vow choices, we get distracted and end up creating our own alternative ‘I love you more than….’ stupid versions. It’s not big and it’s not clever – it just wastes time.

♥ I’m running regularly to fit my bottom and thighs into my form-fitting dress….then promptly rewarding myself with a carb mountain. My weight isn’t increasing…but it isn’t decreasing either.

♥ I’m having a recurring dream; I wake up, it’s the day of our wedding and I’ve not organised anything, so have to blag it all.

♥ I’ve developed a twitch in my left eye.

Brides-to-be…how are your plans going?

With Love, Boho Bride xx

Have fun everyone and try not to get too stressed out with all the planning

First Wedding and Cakes Galore!

6 Apr

Evening All

What a crazy couple of weeks it has been, just so so busy with lots of cake making.

It was the first wedding cake of 2011 for me last weekend. Sophie and Anthony picked a three-tier version of the blossom Eat Cake design (www.eatsleepcake.co.uk/eat-cake) in soft gold and ivory to match their colour scheme. To top the cake they used Sophie’s Mum’s topper, which she had kept since her wedding in 1979! It was a totally sweet touch.

They also had some cute cupcakes for the kids AND two Mother’s day cakes for the Gran’s for the following day, which was a lovely idea.

Talking of Mother’s Day my lovely friend Laura asked me for a cake for not one, but FIVE mother’s who were all celebrating Mothering Sunday together.

We celebrated these gorgeous women by icing all thier names round a pretty champagne and yellow cake covered with icing details and champagne and yellow icing roses.

My lovely graphic designer friend Deb (who designed my beee-utiful logo) is due to give birth to her first child in the next week or so. Fingers crossed I will get to make her a cake for her first Mother’s Day next year. Good luck to her and Dave for the next couple of weeks. I am so looking forward to cuddles.

I am at the Buckland-Tout-Saints Wedding Fayre (www.tout-saints.co.uk) this Sunday alongside my lovely friend Sarah Lauren (who took those totally gorgeous photos for the photoshoot we did back in January) and I am looking forward to a lovely catch up and planning session for our next photoshoot (as well as meeting lots of lovely brides obviously!)

Have a lovely week everyone
